Program Overview

The program is made to provide theoretical knowledge and training about medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes pertaining to the elderly, hospital procedures and medical office administration to those wanting to start in the healthcare field; practical application is provided via supervised site experience.

Other components to the Program are Basic and Advanced Hospice Palliative Care Training, Crisis Prevention Training, Introduction to RAI Observation Tool Training, Acute Care Skills, Medication Administration Assistance, Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED, Foodsafe, WHMIS and Student Practice Education ‘Core’ Orientation (SPECO). These will be completed during the program and are included in program costs.

Medical administrative assistant, medical secretary or ward secretary at local health care associations, private hospitals, residential homes, nursing homes, hospices, or private companies.

  1. Grade 12 or mature student status (19 years of age or older)
  2. Criminal records check as required by Criminal Records Review Act less than 6 months old at program acceptance
  3. TB Screening that is less than 3 months old + updated immunizations required before commencing practicum
  4. Language proficiency requirements:
    1. Successful completion of Grade 10 English or
    2. IELTS 6 with no band under 5.5
    3. Students can also take the PLC entrance test if neither of the above are available
