Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced temporary measures to increase the number of authorized work hours for international students. From December 07, 2023, international students can work over 20 hours per week until April 30, 2024. This applies to students in Canada who have off-campus work authorization on their study permit.

Also, foreign nationals who have already applied for a study permit as of December 7, 2023, will be able to work off campus more than 20 hours per week until that time, provided their applicants are approved.

Furthermore, Canada is considering a work hours extension policy option for international students in the future, including increasing off-campus work hours to 30 hours per week during academic periods.

Previously, international students were allowed by the government to work only 20 hours per week during class sessions.
